Stillgarth is coming soon to Google Play

It is not on Google Play yet. When it is, the link will be right here. Until then, here is what you will need and what the app asks permission for.

A person in an armchair holding a phone in a dim living room at night.

What phone do you need?

An Android phone running Android 8.0 or newer.

  • Android 8.0 or newer

Stillgarth supports Android 8.0 (Oreo) and every newer version.

  • A front camera, for Guard photos

The app installs without one, but Phone Guard needs it to take photos.

  • A fingerprint sensor, if you want it

Optional. Your password and PIN work without one.

  • No account, no internet

Nothing to sign up for, and the app never goes online.

What does it ask permission for, and why?

Only what Phone Guard and the vault need to work. Each one is listed below with its reason.

Permissions Stillgarth asks for, and why
PermissionWhy
CameraTo take Guard's photos, and to take photos straight into the vault when you ask.
Foreground service (camera)Guard runs as a visible service with a permanent notification, so it can take a photo the moment a wrong code is entered.
Device administrator (watch login only)The only Android feature that tells an app about wrong unlock codes. It cannot lock, wipe or change your phone.
NotificationsGuard's "watching" notification and its alerts.
Run at start-upTo remind you to switch Guard back on after a restart.
BiometricsTo unlock the vault with your fingerprint, if you turn that on.
Usage access (optional)Only for Record what an intruder opens. You grant it by hand in Android settings, and the feature does nothing until you do. It shows which apps were opened and when, never their contents.

What it never asks for

  • Internet
  • Contacts
  • Location
  • Messages
  • Call log
  • Microphone
  • Photo gallery

Files only come in through Android's own file picker, which gives the app just the files you pick.

How do you uninstall it?

Turn off unlock detection first. Android requires this for any app that uses device administrator.

Uninstalling deletes everything the app stored on the phone, including the vault. A backup file you saved elsewhere stays there until you delete it.
